Coaching Requirements
The following are REQUIRED for ALL Coaches in the AAHL.
Step 1:
Registration through USA Hockey (Valid for 1 year / season, 9-1 through 8-31. Must be renewed each season, registration begins April 1st).

Step 2:
Completion of SafeSport Certification (Valid for 1 year. Must be renewed each season)

Step 3:
PENNSYLVANIA CHILD ABUSE HISTORY CLEARANCES (CY113) (Valid for 60 months / 5 years):
This is a check for a record of abuse on a child.

**This will need to be uploaded to NCSI (Step 6) to complete the background screening process.
Step 4:
PENNSYLVANIA CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS (SP4-164) (Valid for 60 months / 5 years):
**This is a PA State Police criminal record check. This will need to be uploaded to NCSI (Step 6) to complete the background screening process.
Step 5:
FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION (FBI) CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK (Valid for 60 months / 5 years):
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is utilizing IdentoGO to process fingerprint-based FBI criminal background checks. The fingerprint based background check is a multiple step process. You must first register online, and then go and actually have your fingerprints taken, and then wait for the results. You can register online by following this link:
The required code for volunteers is 1KG6ZJ. The required code for employees is 1KG756.

If applicable:
A Volunteer Affidavit can be used in lieu of an FBI Check by anyone who has lived in PA for the last 10 consecutive years AND is participating as a volunteer with USA Hockey.

**FBI Fingerprint results or the Volunteer Affidavit will need to be uploaded to NCSI (Step 6) to complete the background screening process.
Step 6:
Completion of the Mid-Am screening (Valid for 2 years / seasons, 9-1 through 8-31)

Completion of the CDC online concussion training module (Valid for 1 year / season. Req'd for High School Coaches and highly recommended for Amateur Coaches)

Step 8:
Completion of the Age Specific Modules (Needed for the level that you will be coaching)

***ALL Steps 1-8 must be completed before you can be included on the team roster and/or eligible to participate in any on or off ice team activity.
Step 9:
Completion of the correct level of Coaching Certification as required (as outlined below)
**YEARS OF COACHING CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS**
Year 1: (ex: 2011-12) Level 1 clinic + age-specific component
Year 2: (ex: 2012-13) Level 2 clinic + age-specific component if not previously taken for current age level
Year 3: (ex: 2013-14) Level 3 clinic + age-specific component if not previously taken for current age level
Year 4: (ex: 2014-15) Level 4 clinic + age-specific component if not previously taken for current age level
Effective in the 2022-23 season, Level 4 coaching certifications are valid for three (3) seasons, and Level 5 coaching certifications are valid for four (4) seasons, each as indicated by an expiration date. Before the expiration of their level, coaches must accumulate 5 credit hours of continuing education by attending USA Hockey continuing education offerings. The USA Hockey clinic listings will indicate all continuing education offerings and the credit value of each. The Coaching Education Program retains the responsibility for defining continuing education credit values, including clinic or online course work.
